The most common causes are reactive clay soils that shrink and swell with moisture changes, poor drainage directing water under the home, tree root intrusion drawing moisture from the ground, and natural soil consolidation in older properties. As the soil gives way, the piers drop — and your floors slope with them.

How do I know if my piers are sinking?

The most obvious signs are sloping or uneven floors, doors that stick or won't close properly, gaps appearing between skirting boards and the floor, bouncy or springy floorboards, and visible cracks in walls — especially diagonal cracks near door and window frames.
